Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), more commonly known as drones, have revolutionized the way we view the world. From aerial photography to package delivery, UAS has revolutionized the way we work and live. However, with the advantages of UAS comes the responsibility to ensure they are operated in a safe and legal manner.
When UAS are not operating in accordance with FAA Part 107 regulations, interdictions are used to prevent disaster or harm to people or property. Interdictions are the enforcement of the rules and regulations of the FAA by law enforcement or other FAA authorized personnel. Interdictions are necessary to ensure UAS are operated in a safe and responsible manner.Interdictions are conducted when UAS are sighted not following Part 107 regulations.
Regulations that UAS must adhere to include altitude, speed, and geographic restrictions, as well as other regulations such as not flying near airports or over people. When UAS are spotted flying above the maximum altitude, or in restricted airspace, or in other violation of Part 107 regulations, the FAA may deploy law enforcement or other personnel to investigate and take the necessary steps to ensure the safety of people and property.
